The idea – to get an insight from mummies all over the world about their top 5 things they love most about being a mum. If you want to join in just write a post of your own, and find someone to link to and tag – someone from your own country, if you like, but definitely someone from another country, then link back here and leave a comment.
So here goes…some of the 5 bestest things about being a mummy:
1. That I am mummy to my little girl – I am just the luckiest mummy alive to have my baby girl. She is just the best. I can’t imagine being mum to any one else. No other kids compare. Fact. (Don’t all mummies think this about their own kids!)
2. That she is a piece of us – My baby has inherited my large green-grey eyes framed by thick black lashes. She has her daddy’s thick lips and round face. She looks at us and we witness flashes of my sisters, my own mum, my lovely late mother-in-law. And it catches our breath. She is a part of all of us – the best of us from generations before.
3. That she finds joy in everything – She can find humour, excitement and pure, unadulterated happiness in everything. A cartoon can have her in fits of giggles (even if she has watched the punchline 200 times before), a favourite book can engross her for hours (being read over and over to herself in a language only she and her stuffed toys can understand), and a good piece of music can see her dancing and wiggling before I can even get to my feet. Best of all is when she exclaims “Oh Wow!” in whispered appreciation of life’s treats. It forces me to take a fresh look at the world, through her eyes, and it is pretty joyful.
4. That she has taught us to love – You don’t know how deeply and unquestioningly the human heart can love until you have children of your own. It is all-consuming ecstasy and heavy as lead. It is also bittersweet as the love is forever tinged with worry, guilt and anticipation for their future.
5. That she has a nap-time – There is something so satisfying about tucking your baby up for their afternoon nap. You feel satiated, sometimes relieved! You have got through the morning and all the playing, feeding, cleaning that that entails. They slumber soundly and it is mummy’s time to rest, clean, work. There is peace. And when they awake, that smell on their skin is like nothing else. Warm, soft, chubby. Mmmm…Blissful!
